Why is a statement marked "unverifiable"?
Last updated
Unverifiable means the statement gave CounselPro no printed balance to check its transactions against, so there is nothing to tie out. The money isn't flagged.
A cycle reads unverifiable when the statement did not give CounselPro a balance to check its transactions against. Reconciliation runs one equation, beginning balance plus everything that moved equals the ending balance. When a statement prints neither a beginning nor an ending figure, there is nothing to tie the transactions to, so the cycle is marked (slate) instead of reconciled or needs review.

What causes an unverifiable cycle?
The statement printed no balance. Some accounts, like certain pass-through or sub-accounts, list activity without ever printing a running balance. With no anchor on either end, the math has nothing to land on.
An account number could not be read. If a page was too degraded to pull a clean last four digits, CounselPro cannot line the transactions up to the right balance. Rather than guess, it holds the cycle as unverifiable.
Is unverifiable a problem?
No, and it is worth being clear on the difference. Needs review means the numbers are there and they do not agree, that is the flag worth chasing. Unverifiable means there were no numbers to compare in the first place. Nothing is wrong with the client's money, CounselPro simply had nothing to verify.
The transactions from an unverifiable cycle are still extracted. They still appear in the transaction ledger and still feed insights. You lose the balance check on that one cycle, not the data.
What can I do about it?
Confirm it by eye if it matters. Open the statement and check the cycle against the source. If the account genuinely never printed a balance, unverifiable is the correct and honest result.
Re-upload a clean copy if a bad scan hid the balance. When the balance is on the page but the scan was too rough to read, download the original from the bank and reprocess.
Mark it reconciled by hand when the cycle is right. If you have confirmed the cycle and it simply cannot be auto-checked, you can mark it reconciled yourself.
On the coverage grid, the same cycle shows as a slate cell, so unverifiable reads the same way in both places.
