Can Daystrom tell me an account balance?
Last updated
Daystrom can tell you the exact balance a statement printed on the page. It does not track a live running balance across a client's accounts on its own.
Yes, with one important limit. Daystrom can tell you the balance a statement actually printed, because it can read the statement page. What it cannot do is give you a running balance that it computed itself from the transactions.
What balance can Daystrom give me?
The number a statement shows on the page. Every bank statement prints a beginning balance and an ending balance for the period, and Daystrom reads those straight from the source document. So questions like these work:
"What ending balance did the March Chase statement print?"
"What was the beginning balance on the savings account in January?"
Daystrom reports what the statement said, and it can point you to the page it read.
Why won't it give me a running balance?
Because CounselPro tracks money that moved, not a live balance. The cash-flow view works in flows: money in, money out, and the net between them. It does not carry a structured, running balance from one transaction to the next.
That is a deliberate line. Rather than add up transactions and guess a balance the statement never printed, Daystrom sticks to the figure on the page. If you ask for a live running balance, it will tell you that number is not something this version of the product tracks.
Note
"Net change over a period" and "the balance on a given day" are different questions. Daystrom can total the flows for a period, and it can read a printed balance from a statement, but it will not invent a day-by-day balance the statements do not show.
