How do I organize projects into folders?

Last updated

Group projects into folders from the Projects list. Create, rename, and delete folders as your caseload grows. A folder must be empty before you can delete it.

Folders keep a growing caseload tidy. They live at the top of your Projects list, under a Folders heading, and you can group projects however you work, by practice area, by attorney, or by year. If you have no folders yet, the list says so until you make one.

Create a folder

In the Folders section of the Projects list, click Create new folder. In the dialog, give it a name under Folder Name and click Create Folder. The folder appears in the list, ready for projects.

Put a project in a folder

When you create a project, the Create project dialog has a Folder field, pick the folder there and the project lands inside it. This is the simplest way to file a matter as you open it.

Rename a folder

Right-click a folder in the list and choose Rename folder. Type the new name and click Rename Folder. The projects inside are untouched.

Delete a folder

Right-click the folder and choose Delete folder. There is one rule: a folder has to be empty first. If it still holds projects, CounselPro stops you with "The folder is not empty. Please delete all contents inside it before deleting the folder."

So to remove a folder that still has matters in it, deal with the projects first:

Once the folder is empty, delete it. Deleting an empty folder cannot be undone, but since it holds nothing at that point, there is nothing to lose.
