# How do I upload my first statements?

> Upload your client's bank, credit card, or brokerage statements to a CounselPro project. Add the PDFs, then click Process statements to start the analysis.

Once you have [a project](https://www.counselpro.ai/docs/create-your-first-project), you add the statements you want analyzed: bank, credit card, or brokerage. CounselPro reads the PDFs and pulls out every transaction, so the cleaner the file, the better the result.

## How to upload statements

Right after you create a project, you land on a setup screen with two steps. You can also get here any time from the **Files** tab.

1. Under **Upload PDF statements**, click **Click to upload** or drag your files onto the box.
2. Pick one file or many at once. A whole set of statements is fine.
3. Wait for each file to finish uploading. You will see them listed as they land.
4. Click Process statements to start the analysis.

That hands the files off for processing. The next article explains [what happens after you upload](https://www.counselpro.ai/docs/what-happens-after-you-upload-statements).

## What files can I upload?

- **PDFs only.** The uploader accepts PDF files. If you have paper statements, scan them to PDF first.
- **One PDF can hold many accounts and months.** CounselPro splits a combined statement into each account and each statement period on its own, so you do not have to separate them by hand.
- **Digital PDFs beat scans.** A statement your bank generated as a PDF reads more accurately than a photo or a scan of a printout. When you have the choice, download the original from the bank.

> **Tip:** Upload everything you have for the matter in one go. CounselPro works best when it can see the full span of accounts and months, and the coverage view will then show you what is still missing.
