# Where do I find realized capital gains and losses?

> The Realized gains tab under Portfolio lists every closed position: sale date, proceeds, cost basis, term, and the gain or loss, from the brokerage statements.

> **Note:** **Coming Q4 2026.** Investment and brokerage support is not live yet. This article previews how the Portfolio tab will work once it ships.

When a client sells a position, the profit or loss on that sale is a realized gain. Open the [Portfolio tab](https://www.counselpro.ai/docs/why-no-portfolio-tab) and go to **Realized gains** to see them in one place.

## What does the Realized gains view show?

A row for each closed position, with what you need to reason about the tax and the money:

- **Sale date**, when the position was sold
- **Description**, the security
- **Term**, long-term or short-term
- **Sale amount**, the proceeds
- **Cost basis**, what the client had paid
- **Gain / loss**, the difference, colored green or red

Each row links back to its **Document** and **Page**, so you can [check it against the statement](https://www.counselpro.ai/docs/verify-a-holding-against-the-source). The total realized gain or loss across the project also shows in the summary strip at the top of the Portfolio tab.

> **Note:** Some statements footnote a sale that does not count toward the reported gains total, like a wash sale. CounselPro still shows that row so you can see it, but it is left out of the total the statement was validating against.

Realized gains are for positions that were sold. For the unrealized gain on positions the client still holds, see the [Holdings view](https://www.counselpro.ai/docs/see-investment-holdings).
